What God Says About You

God says you are beautiful Christian Parent Coach Elizabeth AnneGod Says You’re Beautiful!

I’ve got to be honest with you. I’m very frustrated. Maybe even downright angry. I am SO TIRED of all the lies that you have to sift through to figure out what makes you beautiful.

  • Ulta makeup
  • At-home hair dyes
  • Your latest little dress purchase from Etsy

Makeup and dyes and pretty little dresses are fine, but they are NOT what makes you beautiful.

God makes you beautiful

Like all good things, beauty comes from God. And God, Himself, says you’re beautiful.

“You are altogether beautiful, my darling, and there is no blemish in you.” Song of Solomon 4:7, New American Standard Version

ALTOGETHER BEAUTIFUL

Recently, one of my children set out to create an art project. He had read the instructions himself, set aside time in his day, and chose a spot where he could spread out all the materials he needed.

With a seriousness that I hadn’t seen in him for a long while, he took care to follow all of the directions. He blocked out all distractions. He was intensely focused on making the most beautiful craft he could make.

When he finished, he was truly proud of what his hard work had accomplished. He chose just the right spot to display his art and told everybody in the house to come and take a look.

SO IT IS WITH GOD

A number of years ago, God set out to make you. He knew just how He would design you. He knew when you’d be born and to whom and exactly where. You were no accident, no afterthought.

God was serious about making you. He was intensely focused on creating you

What’s even more impressive to me is that God knew exactly when and how He would Re-birth you. He took care to follow His plan, and He let nothing get in the way of His artwork.

And at that birth, He called to all of His heavenly host to celebrate what He had made.

“Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” Luke 15:10, New King James Version

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10, New King James Version

God made you on purpose, for a purpose

And He made you altogether beautiful.

“You are altogether beautiful, my darling, and there is no blemish in you.”

MY DARLING

Darling is a term of affection. It is spoken to a beloved person. You are God’s darling.

Now, I do need to point something out here. The Song of Solomon is a book of the Bible that is chiefly interpreted in one of two ways:

  1. As a picture of God’s relationship with His people
  2. As a picture of a godly relationship between a man and his wife

Each interpretation is valid. The best way to read the Song of Solomon is to start out reading it one way or the other, then read it that way all the way through, with only that one perspective in mind.

So when you read this book of the Bible as a picture of God’s relationship with us, His people, accept the affectionate terms as spoken directly to you.

You are God’s darling.

“You are altogether beautiful, my darling, and there is no blemish in you.”

NO BLEMISH

[Christ] “loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.” Ephesians 5:25-27, New King James Version

This explanation of Jesus Christ’s loving you in such a way as to make sure that you live with Him forever in Heaven is written in this part of Ephesians as a tutorial on how men ought to love their wives.

Twice now that theme has come up in this post. God uses the relationship of marriage between a man and a woman as a picture of His relationship with us. Studying that concept is worth its own post.

What I want you to see right now is that there is no blemish in you, no wrinkle. And it’s not because you discovered an essential oil recipe that makes acne scars disappear or because a friend shared a sample of some new skin firming cream.

You are thoroughly beautiful because Jesus made and makes you so. It’s both a done deal and a work in progress.

“You are altogether beautiful, my darling, and there is no blemish in you.”

So, Blemish-free Darling of the King,

  • With or without your makeup on
  • Even if your roots are showing
  • And if you never ever make another purchase from Etsy,

YOU ARE altogether BEAUTIFUL!

God’s words, not mine.
